Team effort to honour sacrifice and service of military men and women during Appreciation Night ceremony

TORONTO, SEPT. 5, 2023 – Coding for Veterans (C4V) and Atlético Ottawa, an emerging force in the world of soccer, announce Canadian Armed Forces Appreciation Night on Wednesday, September 13th at 5:30 pm ET at TD Place Stadium. The ceremony will take place before the highly anticipated Canadian Premier League match featuring Atlético Ottawa vs Pacific FC. The event will commemorate the sacrifices of past and present military personnel and their loved ones, who provide us with our freedoms and rights we enjoy as Canadians.

“It’s a special collaboration to honour and show appreciation to our Canadian Armed Forces members who continue to shape our future,” said C4V Executive Director Jeff Musson. “At the end of the day, it’s all about supporting our military personnel, veterans, and their families.”

“We are incredibly proud to host our first Canadian Armed Forces Appreciation Night in partnership with Coding for Veterans,” said Atlético Ottawa CEO Fernando López. “This event is not only about celebrating soccer, but also about paying tribute to our real-life heroes.”

Now in its 5th year, Coding for Veterans will welcome its 500th student this month. Since its inception, C4V has supported veterans, reservists, military family members, and Afghan interpreters transitioning into the field of coding, software development, or cybersecurity. In conjunction with the University of Ottawa, C4V offers a 6-month, certified curriculum, providing veterans with the opportunity to pursue a career in the technology sector.

“The University of Ottawa is extremely proud of the work it has been doing with Coding for Veterans, to create value and opportunities for our Canadian veterans… Graduates of the C4V program have consistently reported on the immediate impact that the program has had on their careers,” explained Serge Blais, Executive Director of the uOttawa Professional Development Institute. “C4V and uOttawa will continue working closely in offering a top-class learning experience to all participants, leading to professional growth and personal achievement.”

Coding for Veterans’ ongoing commitment to giving back to the veteran community now takes to the soccer pitch. C4V is sponsoring Atlético Ottawa’s jerseys with a portion of the event’s proceeds to be donated to Support Our Troops, the official charitable cause of the Canadian Armed Forces.

“We take tremendous pride in being able to help veterans,” said Musson. “Whether that means providing the training that they need to transition into civilian careers in IT and cybersecurity or working together to show support at an event—the success of our veterans is a priority.”
